A SMALL OBSERVATION ON GOD BEING THE "AUTHOR OF SIN" ISSUE

Isaiah 63:17 O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants’ sake, the tribes of thine inheritance.

The Hebrew Hiphil Stem

This is a unique stem in Hebrew and has no equivalent in Greek.  It means:

In Hebrew, the "Hiphil Stem" is a verb conjugation that primarily expresses a causative action, meaning it indicates that the subject is causing something else to perform an action; essentially, "to make someone do something" - usually identified by a "הִ" prefix before the verb root, signifying a causative meaning.

Key points about the Hiphil stem:
  • Function: It conveys the idea of "causing" or "making someone do something."
  • Formative prefix: The Hiphil stem is often recognized by the "הִ" (he with a hireq) prefix at the beginning of the verb.
  • Example: If the basic verb root is "אָכַל" (to eat), the Hiphil form "הַאֲכִיל" would mean "to feed" (cause someone to eat).
The grammar of the Hebrew text requires that God be the "cause" of this error or wandering away from his ways.  All it takes is one obvious example of a valid exception to disprove an all-inclusive statement like the God-is-not-the-author-of-sin-doctrine requires.

We do not need the opinions of the "church fathers" since they are not our Fathers.  The only fathers we hold to are our divine Father in heaven and our human fathers like Paul and Peter.  We do not need to check carefully to see if Augustine agreed with us, since he baptized infants, persecuted the donatists, and believed that the civil government ought to enforce "orthodoxy." We certainly do not need to know the opinions of Luther, Calvin, or Zwingli - all persecutors of dissent and free speech.

We will use one of the supposed mantras of the Reformers - SOLA SCRIPTURA (which they do not follow).  In short, we do not need the opinions of any sinful men unless they have been chosen by God like the apostles were, but what we desperately need are the scriptures.

We will leave for the supporters of "that would make God the author of sin" adherents to analyze whether what they consider to be logical is the guide to the scriptures.  Also, we would like them to inform us what law God is under and is forced to obey and limit himself to?

We do not question any brethren who will not agree with us on this issue, after all, who are we to judge another man's servant?  All that we hold that is true doctrine came from God.  And God reserves the right to defy our human logic since his thoughts are not our thoughts.
