Back in the early days of our poor efforts to preach the gospel, we were asked to speak at an association of Primitive Baptists where the doctrines of grace were generally held in low esteem. Knowing we were being observed with squinty-eyed cynicism, we nevertheless spoke as we had been taught of the Lord; on the Grace of God. As best as can be recalled, the Lord gave a portion of light and liberty for about three quarters of an hour, and we then took our seat, expecting the worst; and we got it.
"And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?" (Rev. 13:4)
"And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: And the king spake and said unto Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?" Daniel 6:20
"And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs's is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." (Matthew 5:1-6)
We knew a deacon brother some years ago that was a ring-leader for the majority side in a sad dispute among the members of a Primitive Baptist church. He led the forces to exclude about a dozen members for "affiliating" with those the majority deemed to be in disorder. After a hurtful and acrimonious session the "disorderly members" were put out of the church, and they went off, to be later received by those of another church of their sentiment. Well, it was not long after that, until the first church had another contention arise, and the aforementioned deacon found himself the one under accusation, in similar manner to the ones he had engineered out the door months before. With merciless dispatch, the church excluded the poor deacon, and so he too was out in the world, just like those were he railroaded out earlier.
"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away. But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the Gospel is preached unto you." - I Peter 1:23-25.
For a long period of time now those who publish "The Remnant" have been variously accused of some of the vilest heresies ever known to humankind, and, in particular we have been branded as Antinomians. By definition an antinomian is one who is "against the law." Using such a definition it would be possible then even to accuse the most extreme Arminian of being an antinomian when he says he is against the law of sin which works in his members. Certainly before one is tagged with malicious titles there should be some understanding of what that title connotes. In this case we refer specifically to being charged with antinomianism.
"This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief (I Timothy 1. 15)."
