JONATHAN EDWARDS & ANDREW FULLER SUPER TEAM FOR HERESIES

[We are working on an eBook titled The New Divinity Movement and Old School Baptists.  This is just a portion of the book.  Most Old School Baptists view the rise of benevolent societies as the cause of the split in 1832.  But what about the split?  These Old Baptists had no idea that decades before the seeds had been planted for this split, by the likes of Jonathan Edwards and others. This article explains somewhat that split and its causes - ed]

A STRONG DOSE FOR A STRONG BROTHER: OR, AN OLD BAPTIST FLY-FLAP FOR A BAPTIST GADFLY (ELDER JOHN G. CROWLEY)

This is an article from our dear brother Elder John G. Crowley, who we have been trying to tempt to submit articles for us and has finally consented - ed.

THE ONLY THING OUR BIBLE HAS IS PREDESTINATION

This was a statement made towards me by some well-meaning brethren.  They meant no harm in it.  But it indicated a lack of understanding of the vast implications of a belief in the absolute predestination of God. We doubt they would view predestination in dire times of need, afflictions, and persecution as a side issue or a doctrine that can be overstated.

RELATIVE TO THE DOCTRINE OF ATONEMENT OF JESUS CHRIST

Dear Brother Beebe, I little thought twelve months ago that I should ever communicate with you again on this side of the grave, but our heavenly Father has seen fit to continue my unprofitable life to the present with somewhat of renewed health and strength; altho' unable as yet to resume my labors in the Church over which I trust the Lord has made me an overseer.  Since my last communication I have been in several of the southern States, but unfortunately did not find any of our Old School Brethren:

SAMUEL JONES CIRCULAR LETTER OF 1795...

[We publish this circular letter to clearly demonstrate the continuity of the views of the Old School Baptists with the famed Philadelphia Association, as demonstrated by the venerable Samuel Jones.  Note that this circular letter was written a full ten years after the publication of Andrew Fuller's Gospel Worthy Of All Acceptation (1785).  The letter was approved by the entire association, but particularly by William Rogers (Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Philadelphia along with Thomas Ustick), John Blackwell (pastor at Hopewell Baptist Church NJ) and James McLaughlin (a former member of the Welsh Tract Baptist Church and then pastor of the First Baptist Church of Wilmington, DE.]

The Philadelphia Baptist Association, convened at Philadelphia, the 6th, 7th, and 8th of October, 1795.

BOOK: HYPER-CALVINISM: IT IS TRUE?

via GIPHY
We post this free ebook by Stanley Philipps written in 2000 on the subject of the trends that were changing Baptists in the late 17th and early 19th century, such as Mission Societies, and other "benevolent societies".
