BROTHER BEEBE: - As the several pieces published in the SIGNS on the occasion of Elder James Osbourn’s charging the Old School Baptists of the West with Sabellianism, have raised quite a resentment against you and the SIGNS on account thereof, from certain quarters; and as I was the first to call this subject up to the notice of our brethren, I feel disposed to say something further on the matter.

This controversy, between John Clark, an old-school Baptist preacher in Virginia, and Samuel Trott, would eventually cause a rift between them and those who sided with each one.  Those who wish to read. more about this may go here (although we are not sure what position the author. takes). Clark's wing would eventually lead to the Fulton Convention in Kentucky at the turn of the 20th century, which was the official beginning of "Conditionalism", even though Clark would have believed in absolute predestination - ed.
