When I was a student in college, a couple of Rushdoonyite “Dominionists” tried to recruit me. I told them that although I too believed in predestination and election, I was a firm believer in the separation of church and state, I was not a pacifist, and that if they made their “move” and failed, I and my ilk would make limbs bend. They looked like they were gut-shot. They had a kill list a mile long but seemed totally flummoxed to find themselves on someone else’s.
While Dominionism and Christian Nationalism are allegedly different things, I believe they are a distinction without a difference, like a rascal and a politician. I hold with Augustus Montague Toplady that there is no logical stopping place between absolute predestination and atheism. While a majority of Americans profess some form of Christianity, it is overwhelmingly free will goat fodder, or some bastardized inconsistent quasi-sovereign grace hash, law one minute and gospel the next. Both are nothing but practical atheism sicklied over with a thin whitewash of hypocrisy.
They “compound for sins they’re inclined to, By damning those they have no mind to,” fretting over the “unnatural” while engaged in a more preposterous conjunction of fallen human will with a frail false god unable to produce any living offspring. I once corresponded with a chimera who claimed to be Sovereign Grace, Charismatic, and convinced that her political preference was the party of God and truth. She was actually mad at God when a hurricane by passed gay, drunken Key West and devastated the religious squirrel cages of Pensacola. I suggested that perhaps God chose the target he found most offensive.
If you seek a Christian Nation, look to Jerusalem above, the only Christian nation that ever was or ever shall be. Confess yourselves strangers and pilgrims in the earth, your conversation in heaven, and your churches the embassies of an upper and better kingdom. No one will cross its border without their passport.
