He passed from a heart attack. We ask for the prayers of all who love the truth. We also ask for prayers for the church, that the Lord may guide it toward our future. His last wish was to be buried at the Welsh Tract Church cemetery, which the church Lord willing, will fulfill. Elder Lackey would broadcast from the road on his way to work almost daily.
It is hard for me to speak of this, Brother Robert is now with his Lord and in utter happiness. We down here, miss his presence and sage advice; his knowledge of scripture; and strength of conviction. He was used by the Spirit to teach me many spiritual things. He would call me daily and speak to me while working. We spoke about theology, church matters, etc. I will simply say that I miss him terribly.
He was born in Arkansas, His mother is a hundred years old. His father had been in World War II and served in a parachute division which landed in the Philippines with General MacArthur. He came up through Arminian Southern Baptist Churches and eventually heard from a good friend about the doctrines of Grace. This took him to the Conditionalists, which he soon learned did not really believe in these doctrines. From there he met Elder James F. Poole who would be a great influence in both his life and mine. He came to Wslth Tract in the 1980s. He was ordained in July of 1983:
This was his last broadcast Last Monday:
We included here a playlist of all his sermons that have been recorded from the Welsh Tract Channel on YouTube. This is the link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL24nt7OdppN7qOwW_Uyfq_u8ulrpwTVFi
Wonderful farewell
ReplyDeleteWill miss the voice of this dear brother and the encouragement he was enabled to give. Thank you for archive all these wonderful works from Bro Lackey as well as the many others on this site.
ReplyDeleteI will never forget brother Lackey - and brother Poole. Before I went to Snow Hill, I had NEVER even heard of
ReplyDelete" Conditionalism." In ignorance , I thought that All
PBs believed in predestination and in the keeping power of the Holy Spirit.
Dear brother I would only remind you what brother Robert-James Poole-Chet Dirkes an the other absoluters of our order would state, no man takes the office of the Holy Spirit who leads the elect into truth.
ReplyDeleteThis observation dear brother is of course correct. This was never meant to imply that he did not do it through the effectual power of the Spirit. Thank you for the clarification.
DeleteBrother Lackey was one of the Old School Primitive Baptist Ministers in this day and time that sound in the truth.
ReplyDeleteThe dear Brother is no longer in the wilderness with the Lord, but by faith I am made to believe he is in paradise with our Lord and Savior.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing that came to mind when I heard this somber news was the two witnesses are dead in the streets as the people make merry and exchange gifts.
ReplyDeleteI had just contacted him to start to join his Zoom meetings from CA.
What a blessing he has been to me, to the point where I left the conditionalists, even though I have no where else to worship.
Will the service be recorded?
In the last year we have seen two (2) dear brothers (Elder Jack Dawsey and Elder Robert Lackey) who preached and contented for the Truth. Both of these dear brother have been a blessing to many of the Old School Primitive Baptist over the years. They have gone home to their eternal home.
