From the Christian Messenger. Hyper-Calvinists in Dundas. A few persons in the town of Dundas and its vicinity have been excluded for a considerable period of time from the fellowship of the Regular Baptist Church in Dundas, in which they had created a great deal of trouble, and unseemly contention, while in connection with it; were on Saturday last organized by Mr. Beebe, and some other Minister of his way of thinking into a church. They arrogate to themselves the name of Old School Baptists, which is for all intents and purposes a misnomer. Having no personal acquaintance with these anti-mission and Hyper-Calvinistic people, we give the following extract from a letter recently written to the New York Chronicle.

G. BEEBE’S SONS - DEAR BRETHREN IN CHRIST:
By request of our deeply afflicted sister Johnson, I write, briefly, to inform the brethren and readers of the SIGNS OF THE TIMES, of the death of Elder John F. Johnson M.D. He passed one week ago today, Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1881, in his 81st year. Though conscious of the near approach of the time of his departure, he had but little to say, seemingly wrapped in his own silent meditations. His history as an able minister and writer is too well and widely known for me to even attempt to say anything to his memory in this brief notice. He ever had a word of cheer and comfort to Zion’s afflicted, and like your dear father, never turned his back to the enemies of truth. But he is gone, gone to his eternal rest, no more to mix and mingle in the conflict of life. We miss him, and we mourn his departure. Still, we should remember that it is the Captain of Israel’s hosts who has called him from the field of carnage and strife. Now with a crown of glory on his head, the folds of his banner sweep open to the gentle breeze of heaven, and on it written in letters of living light is VICTORY over the last enemy.
May God in his mercy comfort his dear wife and children, together with the churches he has served so long and faithfully, and may he give the spirit of reconciliation to his will, and desire;
“For faith that will not shrink,
Though pressed by every foe,
That will not tremble on the brink,
Of any earthly foe.
That will not murmur or complain,
Beneath the chastening rod;
But in the hour of grief and pain,
Will lean upon its God.
A faith that shines more bright and clear,
When tempests rage about,
That, when in danger, knows no fear,
In darkness feels no doubt.
Lord, give us such a faith as this,
And then whatever may come,
We’ll taste e’en here the hallowed bliss,
Of an eternal home.”
