Proper Terminology
If it is not scripturally proper to call the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost “persons” (and it’s not), what terminology for the sake of clarity can be used?
I do not mean to be impertinent but the only terminology that can be properly used is that left in the testimony of the Spirit. Since He is one (all joined together – Heb. ‘echad’) He is God. He is “God and Father of the Lord of us, Jesus Christ” (I Cor. 1:3, Eph. 1:3, I Pt. 1:3); “Jesus Christ and God Father” (Gal. 1:1); “God Father of us and Lord, Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:2, Col. 2 & 3) ... etc.
Since the child is born and His name is Wonderful Counselor, He is the Spirit of the Most High and there should be no attempt at isolation; since He is also the Eternal Father, how can He be called another and since He is ‘el gibour’, mighty God and the ‘sar shalom’ Prince of Peace then this is His name. To the best of my understanding there is no place in the writ where ‘God the Son’ of ‘God the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost’ appears, therefore the only proper term to use is God.
Since His name is Yehovah, the all-inclusive, self-contained, eternal and sovereign, ‘I AM’, the scriptures state that His name is Yah and that all who have been redeemed from the house of the strongman shall call upon His name (not His names). Elijah saw in his vision at the River Chebar many wondrous things. Four living creatures, each having four faces and four wings. Each had four feet and four hands and they went whither the Spirit went. They appeared as burning coals of fire and moved as the lightning. Under each was a wheel inside of a wheel full of eyes. Their voices were as the noise of great waters as the voice of the Almighty. Above their heads was the likeness of a throne and the likeness of a man upon it and He was the appearance of fire and it had brightness roundabout. All of this was “the appearance of the likeness of the glory of God”. Many members in particular but one; “And there are three that bear witness in heaven, the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one” (I John 5:7). There is no need to speak of accomplishments or attitudes or manifestations for they are all one. The Anointed Salvation of Yehovah became partaker of flesh and blood, this is the Word which became flesh and dwelt among man. He was the visible manifestation of the invisible God and in Him the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily. He made Himself of no reputation and took on the form of a servant to do the Will of the Father but He is One. He came as ‘that prophet’ but He is the Word. He came as the high priest that can be touched with the feelings of the infirmities of man yet He is everything in the Tabernacle. He is the curtains, the staves and stakes, the altar, the fire and the sacrifice (be it calf, oxen, ram, goat, sheep, turtle dove, pigeon, Lamb or coins); the laver, the priesthood and the High Priest; the sanctuary, the candlestick, the shewbread and the altar of incense; the veil, the mercy seat, the coffin, the Law, the Manna and the budding rod; therefore HIs name is Emmanuel for now is the Tabernacle of God with men. He is that sanctuary not made with hands eternal in the heavens, He is that altar that man has no right unto and He is the New Jerusalem into which no man shall ever enter for ; “And there shall no wise enter into it anything which defiles, neither works abominations or a lie but they who are written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Rev. 21:27 ). God is true and all men liars.
He is not persons, nor is He ‘divine entities’ and there certainly is no ‘hypostatic relationship’ between the Father, Son and Spirit as some who espouse themselves theological pundits have said. He is and there is none other. Those who have the unpolluted and incorruptible tongue call Him by the name which no man can learn and with a pure language, they “all call upon the name of Yehovah to serve Him with one consent” (Zeph. 3:9).
When a man speaks to a man with the tongue of Adam and half the language of Ashdod, it does not matter what words are used or hos a name is pronounced, even the Ephraimites could not form the word, ‘Shibboleth’, though they spoke the ancient Hebrew. When the Spirit bears witness with the child of grace, from faith to faith, the name of the Beloved is spoken aright yet still Adam does not have the ears to hear. Adam and his students of theology desire to strive about words and their pronunciations as well as endless genealogies which gender to confusion, they have their followings and their reputations. But in the manner in which they call heresy(division) the Bride adores her Beloved and worships Him in Spirit and truth. Any who desire to argue or delve into their science ‘falsely called’ are welcomed to their hemlock. The children of the King cry Abba Father because the Spirit makes intercession with groanings and utterances which cannot be heard and Messiah has prayed for His people. Clarity is needed for those who have not been taught. The experience of a common salvation and like precious faith of the hope of glory within the inner man, calls upon His name forever.
I apologize if I have been terse in any way, I mean no offense.
Your servant,
(Elder) Chet Dirkes
